The only towel in the bathroom had seen better days and it was now gray and scratchy. I wore ear plugs with some improvement but still I hadn’t a good sleep. Moreover the shower leaked and there was a drop going on falling all night. Finally I had a room similar to the previous one, but unluckily with the air conditioning making noise when the temperature increased and it reactivated. I protested and I was moved to another one after over half an hour and a lot of to and fro to monitor what the guy was doing. I was given a room that looked shabby and with a terrible noise, both from the air conditioner and from I don’t know what in the bathroom. When I came back from the trek there was a young lad who hadn’t the least idea on how to manage a reception. No complimentary water, of course you cannot drink tap water, but you have to buy it. There was a very nice lady at the reception, friendly and efficient, who apologized for the inconvenient and assured me she could reserve a bus to Cartagena when I would come back from the trek. The room was nice and clean, the bathroom big enough (no toiletries or hair dryer, but two towels). I was supposed to be met at the airport but nobody showed up. There is a tiny pool, little more than a bath tub, not even good for a few strokes. The hotel is in a very good location in the middle of the old town, close to the sea (not the beaches). I was at the hotel twice, before and after the trekking to the Lost City, and my evaluation is an average of the two times, good the first, terrible the second (I definitely slept better on the trek….). Solitaire, in its original form, emerged in the 1700s in northern Europe. One difficult and challenging variation, Spider Solitaire, is a very popular two-deck version of the game. If you've played traditional Classic Solitaire, and looking for more of a challenge, you might want to take a look at some of the variations. A Beginner's Guide to Playing Spider Solitaire Practice in one suit mode and work your way up. Four suit Spider Solitaire is arguably the hardest Solitaire version for a player to master. We like that Moochies hasn’t over complicated this watch, providing the basic helpful functions. There’s also a camera, step counter and alarm functions. There’s also the option to “chat” by sending a voice note or emoji, which we found handy when checking in with our teenage tester. With GPS tracking, you’ll always know where your child is, using the Moochies app, meanwhile the voice and video calling lets you contact your child, or vice versa. You will, however, have to activate the sim and choose from the two sim packages (£10 or £15 per month). Although, unlike its direct competitors, Moochies connect arrives with a built-in sim card, meaning you won’t have the extra task of sourcing one. You’ll need to follow the setup steps and download the app to bind your phone with your child’s watch, but we have to say this was pretty simple, with a video taking you through the process. It’s interesting that it’s branded as a “phone watch” rather than a smartwatch, although, essentially, it’s a basic wearable phone for kids, offering a safe way to stay in communication with our children, and we’re here for it. The first Moochies phone watch launched in 2016 in Australia, and last year reached UK turf. The Vivofit jr.3 delivers on all fronts and feels like a polished product, just as you would expect from Garmin. This saves kids having to charge it, and we were also delighted to learn that the fitness tracker is swim-friendly, so there’s really no need to take it off. Unlike other watches, the battery isn’t rechargeable, instead it’s powered by a CR2025 battery, which lasts for a year. This feature was a bit advanced for our reception-aged child, but our six-year-old started to grasp the reward system. Kids will also be rewarded for being active, 60 minutes of daily activity unlocks ‘adventure’ – an educational but fun travel story, where the kids can play the addictive tap-challenge game and quizzes. By completing chores, kids will earn virtual coins (parents decide how many) and parents can choose how the kids can redeem them – there are many preset options such as “go swimming” or “eat out”. We like that you can personalise the chores too. You can also set alarms, amend daily step goals and see how active your child has been, thanks to the movement sensor, and set goals such as feeding the dog. In the app, you can customise the watch’s face, choose an avatar, select a step icon, and state a bedtime and wake time (to provide accurate sleep data). Setup was a doddle, simply download the free Garmin Jnr app, and set up a profile (or profiles, if you have more than one device). They both commented on how comfy the silicone strap was, and loved the embossed leopard print and peach colourway. ![]() On first look, we were impressed by how slight it is in comparison with all of the other watches we tested both our four-year-old and six-year-old tried it on for size and it laid flat on their wrists like a watch should. Garmin is one of the main contenders in the smartwatch field, so expectations were high when testing out its latest junior edition: the Vivofit jr.3. By wearing a watch, they can reach their step goals, with more advanced options tracking heart rate, too. Many of our children already partake in some form of sport, with more than 90 per cent of children between five and 16 years old consistently being involved with it. ![]() ![]() Often coined a “phone watch”, these are appealing if you’re not quite ready to purchase a mobile for your child, but want to safely stay in touch with them.Ī smartwatch goes way beyond simply telling the time, although a bid to encourage timekeeping in our offspring shouldn’t be overlooked, many parents will also opt for a wearable tech gadget to encourage and track movement. Like a simplified version of a mobile phone, if you’re looking for a product that can offer those features, parents should bear in mind it’s likely you’ll need to source a sim card, which may incur extra monthly costs. ![]() The more premium smartwatches that provide GPS tracking and communication options can offer great reassurance for parents. Some go further and become much like a mobile phone, with GPS tracking, calls and some even enable you to do video calls. Many of these kids smartwatches offer similar benefits to those for adults – activity tracking, goal setting and heart-rate monitoring. Like it or loathe it, if you’re a smartwatch wearer yourself, you’ve probably noticed an instant attraction from children, whether that’s fascination with the lights or asking about your step count.īut smartwatches are no longer strictly for adults, with a whole host of interactive watches designed with juniors in mind. A child’s first watch is a milestone, but like most childhood accessories, technology now plays a part. as for girls, really feminine with a girly/trendy style or girls who like they could dominate me lmao. But beyond all of the space madness, the episode also has a shining emotional core to it: Jeff’s love for Hayley. “Lost in Space” is a memorable episode for the simple fact that it’s drowning in aliens and we get a closer look at the rest of Roger’s kind. Well, before (a) Jeff would end up back on Earth, the series would deliver one of their more anomalistic episodes, with the entire endeavor set on an alien spaceship and focused on Jeff. ![]() Hayley would experience a lengthy separation from her spouse leaving audiences to wonder if we’d ever be seeing the return of him. The series would play around with serialization to some extent by having Jeff get abducted by Roger’s species. In terms of “big” American Dad episodes, this one is certainly on the Mt. This is just a good example of how to have fun with Roger letting loose, while also incorporating a strong stable of absurd visual gags that keep the episode perpetually unpredictable. On top of that, the installment also gets to have too much fun with Roger running amok in Bad Lieutenant mode, rising the ranks from trainee, to cop, to crooked cop before you have time to snort a line of coke. ![]() It’s debatable, but I’d argue that “Cops and Roger” has the funniest visual gag to ever come out of American Dad (and I’d go as far as saying that it’s also one of the most surprising, satisfying gags in the history of animated sitcoms) and so for that honor alone this episode deserves mad accolades. ![]() Begging for pity and fighting him off, she wasĭragged into his golden chariot. With his immortal horses onto the Nysian plain. "The earth gaped open and Lord Hades, whom we will all meet, burst forth Aidoneus - the full first name of Hades, is said to have been derived from an ancient word meaning 'father' - he abducted the maiden goddess Kore in the Homeric Hymn to Demeter: Interestingly it is often mentioned that Zeus, Hades and Dionysus were all attributed to being exactly the same god. It should be noted that Zeus Chthonios, Zeus Katachthonios and Zeus Plousios are all epithets associated with Hades, not Zeus. Olympian gods, by contrast, usually received white victims sacrificed upon raised altars. They also received offerings of black animal victims sacrificed into sunken pits, as did chthonic deities like Persephone and Demeter, and also the heroes at their tombs. These deities might be represented as snakes or in human form in visual art, or, for emphasis as both together in one image. In some other myths, when Persephone was abducted, Demeter was so sad and enraged that she made nothing on Earth grow except for the village of Eluesis as the people there provided her with shelter and food while she was searching the whole world for her daughter.Īthenians and Sicilians honored Zeus Meilichios ("kindly" or "honeyed") while other cities had Zeus Chthonios ("earthy"), Zeus Katachthonios ("under-the-earth") and Zeus Plousios ("wealth-bringing"). In another myth, a dead spirit boy (which Demeter had turned into a lizard, and was eaten by a hawk) came to Persephone and convinced her to eat six pomegranate seeds, and when Zeus found out he declared she had to go back to the Underworld for six months, one month for each seed. This is the reason that Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter was formed. So Zeus had declared Persephone would spend half of the year in the Underworld, and the rest of the year coming back and living with Demeter. Anything eaten in the Underworld, would bind them to it forever. But when Persephone told Demeter of the pomegranate, Demeter was struck with sadness. But Hades persuaded Persephone to eat six pomegranate seeds. Hearing the news, she gladly was allowed to go back. In the Underworld, Hades was showering Persephone with gold and riches, and constructed a vast, beautiful garden for her. So when Hermes was sent to the underworld to ask Hades for Persephone back. Going to Zeus, she found that Hades himself had taken Persephone. ![]() This was the season of Winter, in which period of time Demeter was sad. Nothing grew, nothing was green and the harvests died. Demeter, not able to find Persephone, became extremely sullen and saddened. Grabbing Persephone, he rode back into the Underworld, and the gap sealed. Out of nowhere, the ground split, and Hades himself rode out in his majestic chariot, guided by black-ash steeds. Unnoticed by the maidens with her, Persephone went to pick up the flower. ![]() Persephone was picking flowers, when Persephone was caught by the sight of a flower, the narcissus. Zeus granted his blessing, but knowing Demeter would never allow her daughter to marry anyone, let alone Hades, Zeus advised Hades to carry Persephone off while Demeter was away. As was custom, he asked Zeus, her father, for her hand in marriage. Hades had fallen in love with Persephone after seeing her frolicking in a vast meadow. Hades's wife, Persephone was the goddess of vegetation, Spring and fertility, daughter of his younger sister Demeter, and also happened to be Hades's niece. Hades and Hestia are the only two of the siblings that don't have thrones on mount Olympus. Poseidon was given the sea and all the waters, whereas Hades was given the Underworld, the realm of the dead. Zeus was given domain over the sky and the air, and was recognized as overlord. When the war ended, the three brothers divided the world among themselves using lots. With the help of Hades, Poseidon, Hestia, Demeter, and Hera Zeus was able to defeat Cronus and the Titans, thus ending the Great War. Hades and the others were eventually freed by their youngest brother Zeus.ĭuring the ten year war Titanomachy, Hades fought the Titans alongside his brothers and sisters. Like his siblings, he was swallowed whole by Kronos at birth, who was afraid that his children would one day surpass him. He was the eldest son and his brothers were Poseidon and Zeus. Hades was one of the children of the Titans, Kronos and Rhea. You may want to review membrane transport in the cell module. This process can happen passively or require ATP cellular energy. In order to absorb digested substances, that material has to be first moved from the lumen, into the apical or tube-side of the epithelial cells lining the digestive tract, then out of the other basal side of those cells, into the body’s interstitial fluid, and into blood or lymph capillaries for transport through the body. These substances will assist with the movement of food from one part of the tract to the next (such as mucus) and with the digestion of the food while it is in the tube (such as enzymes). These secretions come from both the cells that make up the epithelial lining of the digestive tract and from exocrine accessory organs that have ducts emptying into the tube. All digestive system organs play vital roles in breaking down food moving through the gastrointestinal tract into its chemical building blocks, absorbing these building blocks into the blood, and eliminating residual indigestible materials.ĭifferent parts of the digestive system will secrete substances into the digestive tract lumen. Within the digestive system, the gastrointestinal tract is a continuous hollow tube from the mouth to the anus and is technically contiguous with the external environment. The digestive system moves water, nutrients and electrolytes from the external environment to the internal environment. ![]() Chapter 9: The Lymphatic System and Immunityĥ3.
